THE DIRECT SERVICE AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (DSDP)
The DSDP is the direct service arm of Kanlungan Centre Foundation, Inc. Using an integrative, gender- and empowerment-based approach to case management, the DSDP engages in the following:
- Feminist counseling for migrant women subjected to violence in their workplaces, as well as their families. The counseling is intended to immediately provide psychological intervention and ease her reintegration back to her community. Counseling services are also available to women and their families who have been deprived of economic support by husbands working abroad.
- Legal assistance for victims of illegal recruitment and human trafficking, contract violations and unjust working terms and conditions.
- Welfare assistance for prospective migrant workers or returnees, and their families, with medical, transportation, livelihood and other welfare needs.
- Education and training, focused on empowering migrant workers and their families. The DSDP offers courses such as Basic Migration Orientation Seminar (BMOS), Migrant Rights and Legal Remedies (MRLR), and Gender Awareness and Sensitivity Training (GST).
- Community organizing of communities of ex-OFWs and their families. The objective is to establish Structures of Care (SOCs) to alleviate, resolve and prevent the occurrence of the adverse consequences of migration.
- Temporary shelter, to house women undergoing counseling or therapy. Women returnees pursuing legal cases may also avail of the shelter services.
